Apple Tree Restoration - Cabling an Ancient Tree

  • Ickaticker Road Tremont, ME, 04653 United States (map)

Fee: $30; $20 for MOFGA members

Do you have a mature fruit tree on your property that you want to restore to its former glory? With some careful work, you may be able to extend its life for many years. Join us for this workshop about restoring mature trees, taught by Phil Norris of Clayfield Farm in East Blue Hill. We will demonstrate how to restore an old tree by working specifically on one very old tree on Mount Desert Island. Phil will discuss a variety of techniques used in tree restoration and will demonstrate how to use cables to restore an older tree – in this case, one which has split down the middle. We will work on a much-loved apple tree known as Jake 1829, which is thought to be about 190 years old.

Meet at the large tree located on Ickaticker Road (other side of the property.) See map (attached) for specific location of the tree and workshop.
